Adolescent Treatment

Curry Orthodontics is proud to be your choice when you’re looking for an orthodontist in or around Plano, TX. We pride ourselves on providing state-of-the-art orthodontic treatments for not just adults, but children and teenagers as well. Adolescence is a very common time to receive orthodontic treatment and actually a perfect time to undergo it as well.

The Most Common Time for Orthodontic Treatment

The most common time for orthodontic treatment is between the ages of 11 and 15. By the age of 12, most or all of the teeth have fully erupted and are in place. At this point, you’ll be able to see if there are any crooked teeth, gaps, or bad bites. These problems will rarely ever correct themselves, which is why coming in for orthodontic treatment is important.

Why This Is a Perfect Age for Orthodontic Treatment

Most parents decide to have their children go through with orthodontic treatment during this time because that’s when orthodontic problems first appear. This is also a perfect time to get orthodontic treatment for many other reasons as well. These can include the following:

  • Children at this age have high metabolisms, which shortens the overall treatment time and reduces the discomfort of orthodontic treatment.
  • Kids in this age range are growing rapidly; orthodontists can take advantage of these growth spurts to help shape the bite and teeth correctly.
  • The negative associations of wearing braces usually aren’t present at this age range.
  • Children of this age may be encouraged or convinced to wear them because their friends or other people they know will be wearing them as well.
