Braces-Friendly Recipe: Soup’s On

There’s a chill in the air and we at Curry Orthodontics know that our patients in Plano TX need ideas for delicious and nutritious braces-friendly comfort foods. Soups are one of our favorite winter options and we have some great recipes that work for people in braces. Tortellini Soup is one of those delicious meals that is perfect to eat even right after you have had your braces adjusted. This soup is a hearty main dish that is easy to make. Tortellini Soup

  • 1 Carton of Chicken broth (or vegetable broth)
  • ½ package of refrigerated tortellini (9 oz.)
  • 1 Can of Italian tomatoes (or plain whole peeled tomatoes)
  • 1 Can of cannellini beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 3 cups fresh baby spinach
  • 3 T. fresh basil
  • 1/4 t. salt
  • 1/8 to 1/4 t. pepper
  • Grated asiago cheese or parmesan cheese for topping
  • Optional: For some spice, add some cooked ground Italian turkey sausage – the hotter the better:)

Directions:

  • Bring broth to a boil. Add tortellini, reduce heat and simmer about 5 minutes.
  • Add tomatoes, beans, salt and pepper and cook another 5 minutes or until tortellini is tender.
  • Add the spinach and basil and cook until spinach is wilted.
  • Top with grated asiago cheese or parmesan cheese.
  • Enjoy!
